Physics instead of chemistry - using heat against stings

When it itches and burns, the first reflex is to scratch. However, this only provides short-term relief and also harbours the risk of small skin injuries that can become infected. Although cooling is not as problematic, it is only effective in the short term and may lead to localised frostbite if left on for too long.

Medical preparations for stings

Most preparations use antihistamines to relieve itching and low doses of cortisone to reduce the risk of inflammation. However, they often have to be applied several times, must not be stored at high temperatures and take a certain amount of time to absorb and take effect - rather impractical, at least for a sunny afternoon at the outdoor pool. In addition, some products can be harmful for allergy sufferers or pregnant women.

Thermal sting healers

WERO, a supplier of medical products for occupational first aid, has therefore been looking for an alternative. Thermal sting healers promise quick relief - with lasting treatment success and without annoying restrictions or risks. Small helpers such as the "bite away" model Cobra have a precise effect against itching and swelling without chemicals.

Protein killer

In the event of a sting, some toxins and some anticoagulant/blood-liquefying secretions are injected and the proteins they contain ultimately cause itching, swelling and inflammation. Concentrated heat (around 51 °C) causes these proteins to coagulate, rendering them ineffective. Without any chemical agents and thanks to short heat pulses (3 or 6 seconds), which make accidental "burning" practically impossible, the device is also suitable for allergy sufferers, pregnant women and children.

Practical shape of the sting healer

The sting healer "bite away" model "Cobra" is easy to handle thanks to its special shape - even in hard-to-reach areas of the body. It is robustly made and can therefore be carried in a trouser pocket or rucksack without any problems. It is also easy to clean if necessary - especially the contact surface.

Insect repellent spray

However, it is better to be safe than sorry. We therefore also recommend an insect repellent spray for prophylaxis, such as the insect repellent spray Aktivin® BiesterStop Plus with very good dermatological tolerance and no allergenic ingredients.
