ÖNORM refers to the standards of the Austrian Standards Institute (ON), which draws up standards on the basis of the Austrian Standards Act. There are purely Austrian standards (ÖNORM) and European standards that have been adopted by the Austrian Standards Institute (ÖNORM EN). There are ÖNORM standards for vehicle first-aid kits (ÖNORM V 5100, ÖNORM V 5101), which differ from DIN in terms of their filling.

Among other things, there are Austrian standards for motor vehicle first-aid kits (ÖNORM V 5100, ÖNORM V 5101), which differ from DIN standards in terms of their filling.
The safety measures prescribed for motor vehicles are set out in the Motor Vehicle Act (§102 Para. 10 KFG). According to this, the only requirement is that first-aid kits suitable for wound care must be carried in a dustproof container and protected against soiling. Therefore, the corresponding first-aid kits are often inadequately equipped so that injured persons cannot be optimally cared for in an emergency. Important components such as disposable gloves or respiratory aids are missing. First aid kits according to ÖNORM V 5100 or V 5101 are better equipped.
A distinction must be made between ÖNORM V 5100 for single-track motor vehicles and ÖNORM V 5101 for multi-track motor vehicles. As more people can be transported in a multi-track vehicle than in a single-track vehicle, ÖNORM V 5100 has correspondingly smaller filling quantities.

Among other things, there are Ö standards for first aid kits (ÖNORM Z 1020), which differ from the DIN standard in terms of filling. ÖNORM Z 1020 contains two different sizes of first aid kits, which differ only in the amount of material. The smaller one (type 1) is permitted for work areas with up to 5 employees, the larger one (type 2) for work areas with up to 20 employees.
In companies with more than 20 employees, the workplace must be provided with specific first-aid kits appropriate to the working conditions, which must be available in sufficient numbers and appropriately positioned.
Type 1 and type 2 first-aid boxes are equipped with the same material. However, the type 2 first aid kit has a larger quantity of consumables because it is authorised for more employees. See comparison table for details:
