For a better feeling: How does a good wound cream work?
A good wound cream has a reliable nourishing, pain-relieving and wound-healing effect, which is achieved through the improved wound environment following application. The wound cream also has a pain-relieving effect on bruises and contusions. The moist wound care provides the optimum physiological conditions for rapid wound healing. The lower pH value in the wound also reduces the risk of infection and minimises the risk of scarring
How do I apply a wound and healing ointment correctly?
The correct application of a wound and healing ointment is quick and easy:
- Apply the ointment about 2 mm thick to the injured skin and slightly beyond the edges of the wound
- The opening of the tube should not come into contact with the wound
- Due to the high water content, the ointment can be massaged into the skin very easily and without great pressure
- If necessary, the wound can also be protected with a dressing or plaster after applying the ointment
Once the tube has been opened, the healing ointment should be used up within 3 months. The cream should not be used after the expiry date, as the effect, consistency and colour may have changed.
Can a wound and healing ointment be applied to open wounds?
In the case of open wounds, such as an abrasion, the wound should first be thoroughly cleaned, for example with Werolin® wound cleansing spray. The wound is then protected with a suitable wound dressing, such as a sterile dressing cloth, and secured with an adhesive plaster or bandage . To support the wound healing process, the healing ointment can be applied to the dry wound.
How often should a wound and healing ointment be applied?
Unless otherwise prescribed, the wound and healing ointment can be applied to the injured area several times within the first three days. It can then be reapplied once or several times until the wound or skin irritation has completely healed.
What is the best way to store a wound and healing ointment?
The ointment should be stored in a dry place and protected from light. Storage in the refrigerator is not recommended.
