Leather gloves - for rough and heavy work
Leather gloves can be found in the building trade, in the transport sector or in the packaging industry. anywhere where heavy loads have to be carried and work has to be carried out with a firm grip. Leather is therefore the ideal material for such rough work. Thanks to its robustness and resistance, the material does not tear quickly and leather gloves are also comfortable to wear. In addition to standard leather work gloves, there are also welding gloves, which are primarily intended for work involving the generation of heat.
What makes a leather glove?
Leather work gloves are primarily designed to protect against injuries caused by mechanical stress and the build-up of heat. Leather is a particularly hard-wearing, robust and tear-resistant material that provides optimum protection for the hands. In most cases, leather is also very soft and skin-friendly, making it comfortable to wear. If the work gloves are made of roughened leather, they also provide a very good grip.
Appearance and protection requirements of leather gloves
As the name suggests, leather gloves are made of leather. Bovine leather is used for this. Terms such as grain leather glove or split leather glove distinguish the different models from each other. Grain leather describes the outside of the leather layer, which is somewhat smoother. Split leather, on the other hand, is the roughened inside of the leather layer. In addition to leather work gloves, there are also so-called welding gloves. They are used to protect against heat and cuts. Welding gloves are equipped with a pulse guard and a cuff provides additional protection for part of the forearm. Leather gloves can be lined with cotton on the inside. The gloves can be ordered in different sizes to provide protection for every hand size.
The standard leather gloves fulfil the EN 388 standard (mechanical risks). In addition to EN 388, welding gloves are also subject to EN 407 (heat and/or fire). Both standards together result in EN 12477, which welding gloves must fulfil.
What are leather gloves used for?
Leather gloves are mainly used in the building trade, where hands need to be protected from mechanical risks. This includes horticulture, road construction, metal construction, etc. Leather gloves are also used in warehousing, transport and packaging. Welding gloves are worn in particular for welding work, flexing or other rough work where heat may be generated.
How do you determine the right size of your assembly glove?
Place a tape measure around the widest part of your hand (excluding the thumb) and measure the circumference. You can now use the table below to determine the appropriate size:
17.5 cm | 18 cm | 19 cm | 20.5 cm | 22 cm | 23 cm | 24 cm | 26 cm | 27 cm | 27.5 cm | 28 cm |
