First aid products
As in any business, accidents happen in food businesses that require first aid measures. Cuts or burns occur most frequently when processing food.
However, this also depends on the size and type of business. Nevertheless, first aid products such as first aid kits, plasters or plaster dispensers are indispensable. It is important for food businesses to consider purchasing detectable, blue first aid materials in order to meet food quality standards.
Skin protection & hygiene products
Working with food requires one thing above all: hygiene. Both the working environment and the employees are subject to hygiene measures. These include the cleaning and disinfection of hands and surfaces, but also the protection of employees.
Products from the area of occupational safety
Food businesses must also endeavour to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) for their employees. Protective gloves, beard masks, disposable bonnets and respiratory masks, for example, contribute to hygiene, but at the same time they are sometimes also suitable for protecting employees.
You can also purchase detectable utensils in this product area. If they accidentally get into the food during processing, the blue colour makes it easier to identify and remove the foreign bodies.
Ensuring food quality as a regulation
Hygiene and food safety are top priorities in the food industry. There are regulations and standards to ensure these requirements are met. For example, the International Featured Standard (IFS) ensures that manufacturing processes and supply chains are constantly improved in order to maintain food quality.
In addition, the HACCP concept ensures that foreign bodies in food and prepared food are recognised in good time. The food does not lose any of its quality and at the same time is protected from harmful hazards.
HACCP - Food safety and hygiene management
The abbreviation HACCP stands for "Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point". The concept describes the principles of a food safety and control system, in which hygiene also plays an important role.
The HACCP system has a preventative character due to its risk and process analyses. It is intended to support companies in recognising and preventing potential health risks for consumers during the preparation, processing, packaging, trade and transport of food. The European Community Regulation EC 852/2004 makes the implementation of self-checks based on the HACCP concept mandatory. In addition to larger food businesses, bakeries and butchers, caterers and event catering or food retailers are also affected.
Detection of foreign bodies in food
To prevent, for example, first aid materials or protective gloves from getting into food and its preparation, we offer a variety of easily detectable products. The blue signal colour makes it easier to detect plasters, gloves, earplugs etc. in food. Blue is a very rare colour in food, which is why the blue dressing materials provide a good contrast.
In addition, some models of our detectable plasters are equipped with an aluminium foil under the wound dressing. In large food processing plants, the manufactured products must be checked for foreign bodies and therefore their quality and hygiene by a metal detector before packaging. By incorporating aluminium foil, it is possible to detect the plasters regardless of the colour blue. However, the process is also used in smaller companies where food is processed with the aid of metal detectors.
Other common detection methods include X-ray detectors, sieves or magnetic separators. In addition to plasters, various first aid materials or disposable gloves, metal parts, glass splinters, plastics or organic contaminants can also get into food, for example, which must be filtered out.
