Wearing hearing protection at the workplace is legally required from a noise exposure of 85 dB(A) (85 dB corresponds approximately to the noise level when moving a forklift truck).
However, hearing protection must be provided by the employer from a noise exposure of 80 dB(A). People with inner ear damage are required to wear hearing protection from 80 dB.
