Our STK services for your AED defibrillators

Auf einen AED wird eine STK-Prüfplakette geklebt.

A functioning AED can mean the difference between life and death in emergency situations. Our certified service technicians carry out regular and professional checks to ensure that your AED device works reliably at the crucial moment.

What is a safety inspection (STK)?

The safety check (STK) is an essential component in the field of medical technology, the main aim of which is to regularly check the safety and functionality of medical devices, including AED defibrillators.

When and how often must an STK be performed?

The Medical Devices Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV §11) stipulates that an STC must be carried out by law. According to this regulation, active non-implantable medical devices, such as AED defibrillators, must be inspected at least every two years. This regular inspection is mandatory in order to guarantee the safety and reliability of the devices and to ensure that they function properly in an emergency.

How does an AED STK work at WERO?

Carrying out an STK involves several steps to ensure a comprehensive inspection of the appliance:

1.Visual inspection: Firstly, the device is inspected for visible defects or damage.

2.Device status: A detailed check of the device status, including battery performance and condition of the electrodes.

3.If necessary: Replacement of consumables, e.g. batteries or pads.

4.Functional check: The functionality of the device is then tested to ensure that all components are working correctly.

5.Checking safety devices: A check is carried out to ensure that all safety devices on the device are intact and functional.

6.Documentation: The results of the STK are recorded in a test report (incl. test sticker), which must be kept until the next test.

In which cases is there an exemption from the STK obligation?

Until the end of 2016, it was possible to declare an exemption from the STK obligation for automatic external defibrillators (AEDs). From 1 January 2017, a new Medical Devices Operator Ordinance (MPBetreibV) came into force, which severely restricts the exemption from the STK obligation. Exemption is only possible for defibrillators in public areas, provided that the AED is self-testing and the operator carries out a regular visual inspection.
