Here is a step-by-step guide.Preparing the sling: Fully spread out the triangular sling. It should lie flat and crease-free on a clean surface.Positioning the arm: Ask the injured person to hold the affected arm at a right angle in front of the body. The hand should be slightly above the elbow. Place the longest side of the triangular sheet under the arm so that the tip of the sheet (opposite the long side) is pointing towards the elbow. Adjusting the drape: Pull the upper corner of the drape on the uninjured side over the shoulder and place it behind the neck. This corner is then pulled forwards over the injured shoulder.Securing the sling: The lower corner of the triangular sling is pulled upwards and placed over the injured shoulder. This corner should then meet with the corner already placed over the neck.Tie the knot: Tie the two ends of the scarf, which now meet over the shoulder, firmly together. The knot should be tight, but not so tight that the blood circulation is impeded.Fine adjustment: The end of the sling that protrudes below the elbow can be folded back and secured to make the bandage more secure.These steps will keep the arm in a stable position, relieving pain and minimising the risk of further injury until professional medical help is available.
