What is the difference between a company paramedic and a first aider?
Company paramedics are first aiders in the company who have an extended professional qualification. They can therefore carry out extended first aid measures in the company. Company paramedics are often found in companies with an increased risk potential, such as large construction sites. Compared to the company first aider, the tasks and measures of the company paramedic are significantly more extensive. Last but not least, the company paramedic must also ensure that first aid materials and first aid rooms are regularly checked and maintained
The training currently consists of a basic course (63 hours) and a subsequent advanced course (32 hours). Suitable further training takes place every 3 years.
The company first aider, also known as the company first aider, is trained in a first aid course (9 hours). This training for first aiders must be repeated every 2 years. The tasks of a company first aider only include the initial measures until emergency care is provided by the emergency services.
Is a company paramedic always necessary?
No company can completely rule out accidents at work. If an accident occurs despite the precautionary measures taken, the relevant employers' liability insurance association must be notified. Of course, the first aid of the person affected has the highest priority. This is where the company paramedic comes in. But how many employees do you need a company paramedic for?
- In a company where more than 1,500 insured persons are present
- In a company where between 250 and 1,500 insured persons are present and the type, severity and number of accidents require the deployment of paramedics
- On a construction site where more than 100 insured persons are present
The 3rd requirement also includes subcontractors employed on the construction site.
Rights and duties of a company paramedic
A company paramedic should always fulfil their duty conscientiously. However, the company must not act negligently when training and appointing them. Otherwise, there may be legal consequences, such as a warning or fine. The penalties are higher if the existing equipment is inadequate or if the existing equipment could even harm people.
The legal basis for the requirements of company paramedics is the so-called "DGUV Regulation 1". This contains all the requirements that employers and employees in Germany must adhere to.
Equipment of a company paramedic in the company
Not only the number of company paramedics is important for safety in the workplace, but also the equipment in the company. Sufficient first aid materials must be available to ensure a rapid response in an emergency. The first aid material must be adapted to the hazard situation in the company.
The number of first aid kits and first aid boxes required in the company always depends on the number of employees and the hazard area.
It is also important that first aid kits are distributed in such a way that the distance from a permanent workplace does not exceed 100 metres or is not more than one floor away. Care must also be taken to ensure proper storage.
