What is a first aid room and what purpose does it fulfil in a company?
A first aid room is an essential facility within a company that is specially designed to provide first aid in the event of accidents and health emergencies. This room is equipped with medical supplies and equipment that enable a quick and effective response to injuries or illnesses. In addition to providing first aid materials, the first aid room serves as a place of treatment and retreat for sick or injured employees, while at the same time protecting them from noise and prying eyes.
Regulations and standards for first aid rooms
The furnishing and equipment of first aid rooms in Germany is precisely regulated by the Technical Rules for Workplaces ASR A4.3. These regulations precisely define the requirements for size, location and equipment that a first aid room must fulfil in order to ensure effective first aid for injured or sick people.
For example, a first aid room must have a minimum area of 20 square metres. It should also be easily accessible with a stretcher. It also specifies which medical equipment and furnishings, such as a stretcher, a first-aid cabinet and a washbasin, must be provided.
ASR A4.3 is not only a guideline for the fulfilment of legal obligations, but also an important guideline for the implementation of best practice in the area of occupational first aid.
