Cooling - a prerequisite for successful replantation of amputates
To increase the chances of a successful replantation, it is important to transport the amputation in a cooled state - otherwise the chance of a successful replantation decreases rapidly, as irreversible damage to the muscle cells can already be detected after 4-5 hours at normothermia (core body temperature). Our Dr Marx artificial ice or instant cold packs are suitable for optimum cooling of amputation injuries.

How to cool amputates correctly
The amputation should be wrapped in sterile, dry compresses and placed in the inner bag of the Dr Marx replant bag. After closing the inner bag, the outer bag must be filled with a suitable cooling liquid. Dr Marx Artificial Ice is best suited for this, as the cooling granulate forms the optimum cooling temperature in a 1:1 ratio with water. Alternatively, it is also possible to use ice cubes, for example. However, excessive or partial cooling should be avoided in order to prevent localised frostbite, which can permanently damage the tissue and make successful replantation impossible. The risk of frostbite, e.g. due to one-sided cooling of the amputation, can be avoided by using liquids for better cold distribution. In general, care must be taken to ensure that the amputation does not come into contact with the cooling liquid/cooling granulate or other substances under any circumstances.
