Correct signage
The newly revised workplace regulation (ASR) A1.3, which contains the internationally valid safety signs of DIN EN ISO 7010, has been in force since the first quarter of 2013. Until December 2012 and the publication of DIN EN ISO 7010, the essential safety signs in Germany were defined by DIN 4844-2, which now only applies as a German supplement to and in conjunction with DIN EN ISO 7010.
The new version of ASR A1.3 dated 28 February 2013 replaces ASR A1.3:2007 and includes all the signs of the new DIN EN ISO 7010. The new ASR A1.3:2013 is therefore valid for all workplaces in Germany.
If the employer does not apply the amended safety signs, he must carry out a documented risk assessment (§ 5 + 6 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act) to determine whether the safety signs used can continue to be applied. It must be determined whether the markings used in accordance with the old ASR A1.3 and BGV A8 enable employees to quickly recognise hazards, requirements and prohibitions.
Important: Old and new markings should never be used in parallel!
