Function of the resuscitation bag
Ambient air is drawn in via an inlet valve and then supplied to the patient under pressure via the respiratory mask. The oxygen reservoir connected to the bag increases the oxygen concentration during the active administration of oxygen. Without a reservoir, only a small proportion of the oxygen reaches the patient's airways, the larger amount escapes via the mask. If a reservoir is used, the oxygen collects here and is then additionally supplied to the patient when the bag is compressed. In this way, an oxygen concentration of up to 100 per cent can be achieved.
- Maximum ventilation volume 800 ml Patients weighing > 40 kg
- Oxygen concentration 55 % (2 L/min) to 100 % (8 L/min)
- Expiratory resistance 3.4 cm H2o
- Inspiratory resistance -4.5 cm H2o
In general, this ventilation method should only be used by qualified helpers in order to reduce the risk of gastric ventilation due to excessive pressure or insufficient overstretching of the head.
Further advantages of the Pocket BVM®
The disposable resuscitation bag can also be used several times for simulation and training purposes and can be easily repacked in the storage box. Thanks to the connector for connecting oxygen cylinders, the Pocket BVM® resuscitator can also be used as an inhalation device for oxygen therapy. The product is suitable for use with commercially available masks and PEEP valves. The transparent, ergonomic mask sits flush on the patient's face for safe, correct ventilation.
